Well, I made it through my first night ever to sleep in a vehicle! It was a lot weirder than I expected.
I crawled in before it got completely dark and got myself locked in. I’ve never been in the van and locked the doors from inside before, so I didn’t know what to expect. I was having trouble sleeping, and at about 2am I noticed a red alarm type light blinking on the dash. I didn’t know what it was and I started to get worried. I didn’t have my reading glasses on so I couldn’t make out the shape. I decided I needed to climb up there to check it out, and I pushed the button next to the sliding door to open it so I could hop out and get in the driver’s door.
Well…. when I did that it set the alarm off! Apparently you can’t open doors from inside using the buttons when they are locked. I couldn’t find where I set my keys but I knew they were in the van, so hopped in the driver’s seat and started the van, hoping that would silence the alarm. And it did, whew. At that point my adrenaline was really pumping.
The flashing light had stopped, so I climbed back into bed and set the locks. And the flashing light started again. At that point I thought, fine, I am not touching one more thing.
I made it through the night with very little sleep, and was glad to see the morning. First night in the books!
I had some breakfast, made a stop in Hood River to wander around a little, and headed for home. Tired, wondering what I have gotten myself into, and pretty pleased with myself, all at once.
