Overnight in Skamokawa

Off for my second night of camping in my minivan!

I headed to Skamokawa, a favorite spot along the Columbia River. The water here is tidal, since it’s only about 20 miles to the coast, and big ships pass by. I especially love Hwy 4 that hugs the river on it’s way here.

I have a sweet spot in some trees, and I’m so glad to be here.

One of my “learn to van life” goals is to figure out how to eat healthy on the road. I brought some heat and eat soba noodles in a pouch from the produce section, some rotisserie chicken, and some veggies so I can make soba noodles. I don’t want to try to be sanitary with raw meat at this point.

I’m cooking on my single burner butane stove from Iwatani. This little stove puts out 15,000 BTU, like a turbo burner on your gas cooktop!

I really, really love Skamokawa. It’s a tiny historic town tucked right along canals leading to the Columbia.

I took a long walk along the river at sunset, just soaking it all up.

Big ships pass by Vista Park campground, and a lot of people love to camp here and watch ships. It’s impressive to be so close!
