Adventure day! I have been waiting for the Olympic Peninsula to warm up to my taste and finally it did. I got a late start yesterday after a morning dental appt but decided to hit the road anyway. I took I5 instead of the little roads to save driving time and, yuck. So many trucks. I had to swerve to miss one drifting into my lane beside me. I will drive further to avoid it going home!
I stayed at Willaby Campground on Lake Quinault and it is amazing.

It’s an old style NF campground with car camping sites, no room for big rigs. And flush toilets! Water! SOAP! There were only a few campers. Sites overlooked the lake on a little bluff and were set down from the parking spot by steps.

It was so quiet and private. I left my sunroof cover open and the night sky was full of stars.
There are hundred year old cabins along the lake that were granted a land lease during a program to encourage visitors to the park. Some have been “improved” but most are modest little cabins from another time.

I had time for a little hike on a Rainforest Trail and spent most of the evening fanning my effort at a fire with my map atlas. Damp wood does not want to burn but it kept the chill off and I toasted a marshmallow!
